Dr. Blumenthal is Senior Systems Architect and Co-Founder of Calient Networks, where he focuses on advanced optical networking.
He is also an associate professor of electrical engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and is a leader in the field of optical switching systems, earning many prestigious awards such as the 1999 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.
Prior to his seven years as an associate professor, he held engineering positions at StorageTek and Sievers Research, Inc., and numerous engineering research positions at Columbia University and the universities of Colorado and Pennsylvania.
He has authored a number of papers in the optical networking field, such as MOSAIC: A Multiwavelength Optical Subcarrier Multiplexed Controlled Network and OPERA: An Optical Packet Experimental Routing Architecture with Label Swapping Capability.
Dr. Blumenthal received his PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado, an MS in electrical engineering from Columbia University and a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Rochester.
