Maverick’s investment process is driven by intensive, fundamental bottom-up research. They deploy capital to individual investment opportunities that they believe offer the highest returns relative to risk, regardless of index weightings, market capitalization, or style orientations. Their research is augmented by a top-down view of individual industries and the efforts of their quantitative research team. The firm’s investment team is organized into four industry sector teams: consumer, healthcare, cyclicals, and technology. MWNA seeks to deliver consistent, absolute returns from a constantly evolving investment landscape. The firm also advises clients for whom their objective is to deliver long-term capital appreciation as opposed to absolute returns. MWNA and their affiliates have two distinct but complementary approaches to equity long-short fund management. The first is traditional, manager-led fundamental long/short or long-only investing. The second is process-driven and systematic, including Marshall Wace TOPS (MW TOPS) and the Alpha Plus strategy.
