Ms. Laura Schmitz is a Research Associate at The German Institute for Economic Research.
She has been a doctoral student at the DIW Graduate Center since 2018 and a research assistant in the Department of Education and Family since 2019.
Her research interests lie in the field of educational economics, with a special focus on intergenerational mobility and the evaluation of relevant policy measures.
She has an interdisciplinary background with degrees in European Studies, Public Policy, and Economics.
During her Master of Public Policy at the University of Maastricht, she first specialized in social security in developing countries, followed by three years at the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Geneva and Zambia.
Before her Ph.D.
at the Graduate from Center, she completed an M.Sc.
in Economics at the University Carlos III de Madrid.
While in her master thesis, she analyzed data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) regarding the effects of all-day schools on intergenerational mobility in Germany.
