Manoa Heritage Center

The center stewards Kuka‘o‘o Heiau, an intact and restored ancient Hawaiian temple, and the Cooke family’s 1911 Tudor-style home, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The site features five botanical gardens with native and introduced plants, emphasizing traditional Hawaiian connections to the land, including food, medicine, and cultural uses. The center offers educational programs such as complimentary school tours aligned with Hawai‘i’s common core and state standards, focusing on Hawaiian culture, native plants, sustainability concepts like the ahupua‘a system, and Hawaiian values including responsibility and land stewardship. Tours include hands-on activities and games, with resources provided to support educators. Manoa Heritage Center also promotes Hawaiian history and art through the Cooke Collection art book, featuring paintings, prints, and drawings from the 18th to 20th centuries, with proceeds benefiting the center. Photography on-site is permitted for personal, noncommercial use under specific guidelines to respect the cultural site.
