The Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) is the national standards body responsible for developing, publishing, and promoting national standards to enhance Zimbabwe’s competitiveness and protect community welfare. The private company is based in Harare, Zimbabwe. SAZ operates as a non-governmental, non-profit organization governed by a general council representing government, industry, academia, and commerce, and works under a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. The association is affiliated with international bodies such as ISO, ARSO, SADCSTAN, COMESA, and IEC. SAZ provides services including the sale of ISO and national standards, training programs on management systems, product certification schemes, and conformity assessments. It offers laboratory testing and calibration services across sectors such as electrical, chemical, food technology, textiles, and packaging, supporting quality control, safety evaluations, and regulatory compliance. SAZ conducts statutory inspections, non-destructive testing, and auditing, and facilitates standards development through technical committees and public consultations. The organization serves as Zimbabwe’s WTO/TBT national enquiry point and supports trade and industry by combating counterfeit goods, promoting local manufacturing, and aligning standards with national and regional priorities. SAZ hosts events to foster collaboration among stakeholders and advance standardization, quality assurance, and sustainable development.
