Mike Werner

Mr. Werner joined Flagship Ventures in 2006.
Prior to joining Flagship, he spent 16 years with Microsoft Corporation, where he served in a number of strategic roles both at the Redmond Headquarters and the US field before departing in October 2006.
Mike’s work in Redmond included leadership roles in Microsoft Corporate Public Relations, Product Management (Visual Basic/Visual Studio), Developer & Platform Evangelism, ISV Relations and Channel Development.
In addition, he served as Media & Content Assistant for Microsoft Founder and Chairman Bill Gates.
In 2000, Mr. Werner moved to Massachusetts where he created the first Microsoft Technology Center (now 11 worldwide) and developed a new global field evangelism and developer sales force, which is currently a Microsoft best practice.
From 2002-2005, he was responsible for driving Microsoft’s venture capital and investment strategies.
Most recently, he served as Director of Corporate Image Marketing, with responsibility for developing strategic relationships, corporate engagement and public relations and marketing in both New England and Metro New York.
Mr. Werner is actively involved with a variety of business and technology associations and boards including Stanford University’s Roundtable on Entrepreneurial Education (REE), the Massachusetts Innovation and Technology Exchange (MITX), the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council (TLC), and the National Venture Capital Association, and he is a five-year member of IDC’s Software Leadership Council.
He is a frequent speaker and panel participant at industry and academic events in the New England area.
