Mr. Spencer, CFA, holds a BS and an MBA from Brigham Young University and has professional investment experience dating back to 1985.
He is also Chairman of the Equity Investment Team.
He has had primary responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Mid Cap Stock Funds since March 2001, and has co-managed both Mid Cap Funds since their inception.
In managing the Mid Cap Stock Funds, Mr. Spencer employs a buy-and-hold strategy, focusing on fundamentally strong mid-sized companies that are undervalued and can increase their earnings consistently over time.
He looks for businesses with solid management, a competitive advantage, and the resources to maintain superior cash flow and profitability over the long term.
As part of the large-cap asset management team, he incorporates a similar style in the management of the Growth & Income Funds, focusing on a value style of stock selection-buying solid companies at attractive valuations.
