The Jamaican Bar Association (JAMBAR) is a voluntary organization for attorneys-at-law, incorporated as a company limited by guarantee since January 16, 1973. The company is based in Kingston, Jamaica. It represents both barristers and solicitors and includes practicing attorneys as well as affiliate members such as law students. JAMBAR’s mission centers on promoting the integrity and good name of the legal profession, upholding the rule of law and human rights, safeguarding judicial and legal independence, fostering legal reform, and providing continuing legal education and professional development. The association is governed by a council and an executive committee, with various sub-committees focused on specialized legal areas including civil practice, commercial law, criminal practice, family law, intellectual property, employment law, and alternative dispute resolution. These committees review legislation, court procedures, and case law, organize educational initiatives, and advocate for improvements in the legal system. JAMBAR offers members benefits such as access to seminar papers, newsletters, press releases, legal practice directions, and a members' portal, and organizes events, meetings, and training sessions to support professional growth.
