Fernando is the founder of HVA Lanka Exports (Pvt) Ltd., which was founded in 1990.
He currently holds the position of Chairman at E-Channelling Plc, Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd., SLT VisionCom (Pvt) Ltd., Sri Lanka Telecom (Services) Ltd., HVA Farms (Pvt) Ltd., SLT Property Management Pvt Ltd., Sri Lanka Telecom Plc, Sky Network (Pvt) Ltd., Lake Drive Holdings (Pvt) Ltd., SLT Human Capital Solutions Pvt Ltd., SLT Campus Pvt Ltd., Ceylinco General Insurance Ltd., Slt Digital Info Services Pvt Ltd., Mobit Technologies Pvt Ltd., Galle Submarine Cable Depot Pvt Ltd., SLT Services Ltd., and is a Member of the National Sports Council.
He has previously held positions as Chairman of Hva Group, Vice Chairman of Colombo Tea Traders Association, Chairman of The Tea Exporters Association of Sri Lanka from 2013 to 2016, Director of Industrial Technology Institute from 2015 to 2016, Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of HVA Foods PLC from 2016 to 2021, Director of Sri Lanka Tea Board, President of the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka in 2008 and 2009, Manager-Tea Department at Brooke Bond Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd.
from 1979 to 1989, Senior Member of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, and President of the Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka.
