He was also a Director at the National Science & Technology Commission, the National Engineering Research & Development Centre, the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education, the Sri Lanka Accreditation Board, and the National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention.
He held the position of President at the National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka and President-Elect at the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science.
He was the President of the Institute of Chemistry (Ceylon) and Head-Research & Innovation at the Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (Pvt) Ltd.Dr. Mubarak obtained a doctorate degree from the University of Cambridge and an undergraduate degree from the University of Colombo.
