Presently, Gayani de Alwis holds the position of Global Chairman at Women In Logistics & Transport Wilat Sri Lanka Forum.

She is also Member of Sri Lanka Institute of Directors, Member of The Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka, Council Member at The Open University of Sri Lanka, Member of Sri Lanka Ministry of Skill Development & Vocat Training and Member of Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport and on the board of 5 other companies.

In the past Gayani de Alwis occupied the position of Member of National Human Resources Development Council of Sri Lanka, Director-Customer Service at Unilever Sri Lanka Ltd. and Member of Sri Lanka Ministry of Health, Nutrition & Indigenous Medicine.

She received an MBA from Postgraduate Institute of Management and a graduate degree from The University of Reading.
