The Trust is dedicated to preserving and restoring heritage rolling stock and equipment, and supporting volunteers who perform much of the work to make operating the Railway possible. The Trust has an important collection of former Southern Railway coaches, which the volunteer Heritage Coach Team is working to restore to enable passengers to travel in the style of the 1930s and 40s. The Trust has started the first diesel multiple unit train service to the main line at Wareham since 1972, with a dedicated volunteer who was among the first to start rebuilding the heritage line in 1976 being the conductor driver of the first train.
