Bernard Kear

Prior to his academic appointment at Rutgers, Dr. Kear held the positions of Scientific Advisor at the Materials Sciences Laboratory of Exxon Research and Engineering and Senior Staff Scientist at United Technologies Research Centre in Connecticut.
Dr. Kear has a broad and diverse background in advanced materials and processing technologies.
His work has covered areas that include intermetallic compounds, superalloys, rapid solidification, surface modification and chemical synthesis of nanophase materials.
He sits on several advisory boards, including the Department of Materials Engineering at Drexel University, the Materials Processing Centre at MIT, and the NBS Board of Assessment.
He is also affiliated with many professional societies and chaired the Board of Governors of Acta Metallurgica in 1987 and the National Materials Advisory Board in 1986.
He has also been involved in spinning out companies based on his leading edge technology research at Rutgers University.
Dr. Kear obtained his DSc degree in Materials Science in 1970, the PhD degree in 1957 and his B.Sc.
degree in 1954 from the University of Birmingham, England.
