Roberts served as President & CEO of RAG American Coal Holdings, Inc. from 1999 to 2004, followed by President & CEO of Foundation Coal Corp.

Roberts was also Chairman of the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity and Vice Chairman of the Coal Utilization Research Council.

Roberts earned an undergraduate degree from The Pennsylvania State University.
