Zelms has more than 35 years professional experience and has worked at all levels of management, from shift foreman to general manager.
Prior to joining The Doe Run Company, he served as Vice President of St. Joe Minerals Corporation.
In addition to his work with Doe Run, Zelms serves on the Board of Directors for the National Mining Association, the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum, and Phoenix Textiles Corporation.
He is a member of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical & Petroleum Engineers and was recognized by Mining World News as Man of the Year in 1993.
He has also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Lead Industries Association and Chairman of the School of Mines and Metallurgy Academy at the University of Missouri at Rolla.
Zelms is a past member of the Board of Directors of Homestake Mining Company and BW/IP Inc. Zelms holds a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla.
He was also presented the professional degree of engineer of mines by the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1987 and an Alumni Merit Award for his outstanding professional and personal achievements in 1994.
He is also a graduate of the Stanford University Executive Program.
