Mr. Jim B.
Bertles was President and Chief Operating Officer of Brown Brothers Harriman Trust Co., and was responsible for all trust, fiduciary and tax activities of the firm in the U.S.
From 1999 until 2004, he was a Managing Director of Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. and was responsible for the firm investment and fiduciary activities in Florida.
Before Brown Brothers Harriman, he spent nearly 20 years practicing law in Connecticut, New York and Florida at the law firms of Cummings & Lockwood, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft and Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart .
Mr. Bertles is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, is Board-Certified by the Florida Bar in Wills, Trusts and Estate Law, and has served on numerous State and County Bar Committees.
He is also very actively involved in charitable and civic activities, either now serving or having recently served as a member of the Vestry, Senior Warden and Chancellor of Bethesda-By-The-Sea Episcopal Church; Chairman of the Executive Committee of Professional Advisors of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties; Chairman of the Town of Palm Beach’s Zoning Commission; a Director of the Palm Beach Civic Association, the Palm Beach Community Chest/United Way, and Palm Beach Crime Watch; a member of the Executive Committee of the Trust and Investment Division of the New York Bankers Association; a member of the Executive Committee of Trust Management Association, Inc.; and a Director and Chairman of the Planned Giving Committee of the Norton Museum.
Mr. Bertles attended The Choate School and received a BA degree in Economics and Political Science from Amherst College and a JD degree from Fordham University Law School.
