The firm was founded in 1997 when the investment management activities of De Hollandse Koopmansbank and the investment management department of SNS Bank merged. They were acquired in 2022 by Cardano Risk Management BV, which is owned by Cardano Holding Ltd. in Great Britain. The firm was formerly known as ACTIAM NV and rebranded to Cardano in 2023. The firm offers sustainable investment strategies and solutions to insurance companies, pension funds, banks and distribution partners. CAM is a signatory to the United Nations Principles of Responsible Investing (UNPRI).

Swiss Life Asset Management (Netherlands) (SLAM) is the wholly-owned Dutch subsidiary of Zwitserleven, itself a subsidiary of Swiss Life Holding AG (VX: SLHN) in Switzerland. ^Founded in 1901, SLAM is an insurance and pension management firm which provides pension fund management services to institutions, corporate and private clients. Located in Amstelveen, the firm offers Corporate Pension Benefit Funds, Delegated Self Administration and risk reinsurance products for large group insurance contracts, self-funded pension foundations, and companies with their own pension fund.
