The firm was founded by Andrew Gordon, James Ferguson and Joyce Delucca in 1994 as a business unit of Chemical Bank a (predecessor of JPMorgan Chase & Co.) to create an asset management capability for below investment grade debt investments. They were incorporated in 1998 and separated from The Chase Manhattan Corp. in 1999. In 2016, the firm was acquired by Conning & Co., which is ultimately owned by Cathay Financial Holding Co., Ltd. (TPE: 2882) in Taiwan. Octagon manages CLOs, separately managed accounts, private funds, and registered Funds.
