The firm was founded in 2004 by Gary Arakawa, Rebecca Dutka, Kim Wilkinson, Franklin Ulf and Robert Raney. They were acquired by Cerity Partners Equity Holding LLC in 2022. Covington primarily manages portfolios for high-net-worth individuals and families, trusts, retirement accounts (IRAs, corporate pensions and profit-sharing plans), and charitable organizations (foundations and endowments).

West Oak Capital LLC is an independent, SEC-registered investment advisor and wealth management firm headquartered in Eagle, Idaho. The firm was founded as Live Oak Capital LLC by Byron Snider and Lisa Snider in 2003. West Oak Capital provides investment management services to individuals, trusts, estates, charitable organizations, pension and profit-sharing plans, retirement accounts, corporations and other business entities. Their primary focus is serving affluent families, retirement plans and charitable foundations.

On April 12, 1853, the New York State legislature passed a bill chartering the United States Trust Co. of New York with the mission of serving as manager, executor and trustee of personal and corporate funds. They opened for business in New York City in August of that year.
