Baughman
is a Partner in the financial services and securities litigation group and the media law practice group of Dechert LLP.
He joined Dechert in 1997, after finishing a clerkship for the Honorable William H.
Yohn, Jr., on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
He has extensive litigation experience in both federal and the Pennsylvania courts, at both the trial and appellate level.
He has represented defendants in several class action lawsuits alleging violations of the federal securities laws, including In re Advanta Securities Litigation, 180 F.3d 525 (3d Cir.
1999), the first case in which the Third Circuit interpreted the pleading requirements of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act.
He has represented Officers and Directors in claims alleging breach of fiduciary duty, including a significant lawsuit brought by the Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner against the Officers and Directors of Reliance Insurance Company.
He is currently litigating an accounting malpractice lawsuit on behalf of Adelphia Communications Corporation against its former auditor, Deloitte & Touche LLP.
He attended Cornell University, where he double majored in economics and history, receiving his B.A.
in 1993, with distinction in all subjects and graduating magna cum laude in economics.
He graduated from the University Of Pennsylvania Law School in 1996, magna cum laude and Order of the Coif.
At Penn, he served as a comment Editor on the University of Pennsylvania Law Review.
