Mr. Harmon joined Hartline in January 2001 after retiring as a Vice President in the Private Client Department of the Chicago brokerage operations of ABN-AMRO Corp.
He began his career in the securities business in 1965 with Chicago Corp., organized that year with just 15 employees.
It became a major independent firm in the industry after enlarging its brokerage operations, expanding into investment banking and trading, and increasing to over 10,000 employees.
In 1997, the firm was sold to ABN-AMRO.
Prior to entering the securities industry, Mr. Harmon utilized his B.A.
in Geology from Princeton University ('32) to begin what became a lengthy, successful career with Pure Oil Co. There he advanced to Director of Purchases and retired for the first time when Pure became part of Unocal in 1965.
He recently moved to Lake Forest from Highland Park.
He is active in Trinity Church, Highland Park, where he has been a vestry member.
He also belongs to the University Club of Chicago and to the Exmoor Country Club, in addition to serving as a Director on the Board of the Chicago Gravel Company, an aggregate mining business.
He has two children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
