John Morris

Mr. John Morris is a South Africa Strategist at Merrill Lynch South Africa Pty Ltd.
He is also a director and the Investment Strategist for South Africa, covering asset allocation, sector and stock selection.
He is a member of the Global Equity Strategy Research group and a senior Strategist on the EEMEA Equity Strategy product team.
He is based in Johannesburg.
His primary task is to formulate research that identifies key investment themes, trends and ideas.
The Financial Mail analyst survey has ranked Mr. Morris and the BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research Strategy team in the top three places from 1999 to 2015 (the last year the firm participated) with 14 #1 awards over the 17 year period.
The team was also ranked #1 in the II survey for South Africa Strategy in 2012-2017 and #1 in EEMEA Strategy in 2017, as this survey gained in importance.
He became South African Strategist in 1997 and has been with BofAML for over 28 years.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Morris was with Max Pollak and Freemantle, a private South African broking firm from 1986-89, where he worked as a diversified mining analyst and then as a private client portfolio manager.
He joined Davis Borkum Hare in 1989 as a research advisor and become Head of Research in 1994.
He holds Bachelor's Degrees in Commerce and Accounting from the University of Witwatersrand.
He is also a Chartered Accountant (SA).
