Peabody Energy Corporation è un produttore di carbone, che fornisce prodotti essenziali per la produzione di energia e acciaio affidabili. Commercializza e intermedia carbone da altri produttori di carbone, commercia carbone e contratti di trasporto. I segmenti della Società comprendono l'Estrazione Termica Seaborne, l'Estrazione Metallurgica Seaborne, l'Estrazione del Powder River Basin, l'Estrazione Termica Altri Stati Uniti e l'Azienda e Altro. Le attività del segmento Seaborne Thermal Mining consistono in miniere nel Nuovo Galles del Sud, in Australia. Le miniere di questo segmento utilizzano processi di estrazione sia in superficie che in sotterraneo per estrarre carbone termico a basso tenore di zolfo e ad alto Btu. Le attività del segmento Seaborne Metallurgical Mining consistono in miniere nel Queensland, Australia, una nel Nuovo Galles del Sud, Australia e una in Alabama, Stati Uniti. La Società possiede la porzione meridionale del tenimento di Wards Well.
