Geoff Whitehead

Prior to joining Flagship Ventures in 2008, Dr. Whitehead was with PRTM, a worldwide operational strategy management consultancy, for three years where he served most recently as a Manager in their Life Sciences group.
At PRTM, he helped create and lead their molecular diagnostics team and managed multiple strategic and operational engagements with leading Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, and Diagnostics companies.
Additionally, he worked at Myriad Genetics for over two years, where he performed research on identifying drugable targets, enhanced DNA sequencing capabilities and performed human genetics analyses for obesity and diabetes.
Dr. Whitehead holds a Ph.D.
in Genetics from the Biological & Biomedical Sciences program at Harvard Medical School and a B.S.
in Biochemistry from the University of Utah.
His Ph.D.
research was done in the laboratory of Professor Mark Keating at Children’s Hospital–Boston in the fields of regenerative medicine, genetics and developmental biology.
His Ph.D.
research, showing fgf20a to be required for initiation of fin regeneration in zebrafish, was published in the journal Science
