Matt Austen

Mr. Matt Austen is Partner & Head of the Corporate & Institutional Banking Practice at Oliver Wyman Group in London.
He has over seventeen years of financial services consulting experience, during which time he has advised clients on a broad range of strategic and operational issues in wholesale and investment banking in a number of developed and emerging markets, having spent part of his career leading the firm’s Corporate & Institutional Banking practice in Asia.
During his career, he has led several major clients through a range of strategic and transformational situations.
He has worked with several clients to define and implement their wholesale banking strategies across their domestic and international markets.
He has also worked extensively in a range of operational areas spanning risk management, performance management and compensation.
Much of his recent work has included advising clients in their response to new regulation, working with them to understand the financial impact and the implications for their business model, and to develop and implement the response plan from strategic re-positioning through design and development of new capabilities.
Mr. Austen holds a Master’s degree from the University of Cambridge in Economics and Modern Languages – French and Spanish, which he speaks fluently.
