Alessandro Zampieri

Alessandro joined Breakthrough Energy in July 2021, where he is responsible for the development of projects within the Catalyst program.
He brings 18 years of work experience in Management Consulting, R&D/Innovation, and Project Management, across organizations such as McKinsey & Co, Siemens AG, and Dubai Government.
In the last 5 years at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Alessandro led the development of the first MW-scale green H2 pilot in the MENA region for Expo 2020.
He also designed and led a platform for cleantech scale-up within the organization, oversaw the portfolio of projects for the R&D division, and led a number of strategic initiatives for business diversification.
At McKinsey & Co, he served clients both in the public and private sector, with a focus on power, O&G, and chemicals across the GCC region.
He led projects spanning from strategy, innovation, and lean operations to large organizational transformation and implementation programs.
Prior to that, Alessandro spent 6 years at Siemens Corporate Technology in Germany, focusing on the development of technologies and solutions for power sector decarbonization, and providing technology consultancy services.
Alessandro holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, and an MBA from INSEAD Business School, Singapore.
He also has a Master in Materials Engineering from the University of Padova, Italy.
Alessandro is married with two children and is passionate about basketball, windsurfing, meditation, and yoga.
He is fluent in English, Italian, and German, and has lived and worked in Italy, Germany, Singapore, UAE, KSA, and Qatar.
