Prior to joining MB Venture Partners, Dr. Compton served as a venture capitalist, seasoned serial entrepreneur and successful medical device executive.
Previously, he was president and chief operating officer of Sofamor Danek Group, Inc., a company in which he invested in 1989.
During his involvement, the company's sales grew to over $400 million, earning it the position as the world's largest supplier of medical devices, computer-assisted surgery products and biologics for spinal surgery.
Sofamor Danek was acquired by a Minneapolis based medical device giant Medtronic, Inc. , for $3.7 billion in January 1999, at which time Dr. Compton became president of the Neurologic Technologies division of Medtronic, Inc. He remained president of that division until leaving the company in February 2000 to return to venture capital investing.
Before joining Sofamor Danek, Dr. Compton was general partner in two successful venture capital firms - First Chicago Venture Capital and CID Equity Partners.
While there, he gained extensive knowledge in the software industry, serving on numerous corporate Boards in the areas of software services and information systems.
He has been the lead investor in 18 businesses, several of which have gone public, and he has co-founded three start-up companies.
Dr. Compton also serves on the Board of Directors of Mezzia , NoInk Communications, Interactive Intelligence , Experiencia, ExactTarget, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and The Kauffman Foundation.
