David Howells

David joined OUI in 2018 as a Senior Investment Manager.
His role involves helping new companies spin out of the University, as well as managing a portfolio of existing spinouts and representing OUI and the University in the broader investor community.
David represents the University as a board observer on a number of spinout companies and is active in the investment and divestment decisions relating to the portfolio.
Prior to joining OUI David was a Senior Investment Manager at VenCap International, a leading investor in venture capital funds in the US, Europe and Asia.
Whilst there he led primary and secondary investments into funds and managed the firm’s research efforts, as well as playing a leading role in formulating investment strategy, marketing and reporting to investors.
David has a DPhil in Materials Science from the University of Oxford, where he worked on thin film polymer composite systems in collaboration with Dupont Teijin Films.
Before that he was awarded an MChem degree from the University of Manchester, which included a year’s placement at GlaxoSmithKline.
He has the IMC qualification and has passed all three levels of the CFA Program.
