Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare (JHSMH) was created when two of the region's most well established health systems - Jewish Hospital HealthCare Services and CARITAS Health Services- joined together in 2005. The merged company is a major regional health network that includes over 70 health care facilities with more than 1,412 licensed beds, over 42,000 discharges and almost 132,000 emergency room visits annually. Noted for numerous medical 'firsts' in Kentucky, the nation and the world, Jewish Hospital is the site of the nation's first four hand transplants, and the world's first and second successful AbioCor Implantable Replacement Heart transplant.
