The Stock Feed Manufacturers' Council of Australia is the national industry body representing over 90% of Australian compound feed manufacturers, producing more than 5.5 million tonnes of animal feed annually across more than 180 sites. The private company is based in Canberra, Australia. Established in 1961, the council provides leadership and advocacy for the Australian stockfeed manufacturing sector, addressing issues such as raw material supply, quality standards, legislation, biosecurity, sustainability, and industry development. It promotes safe and sustainable feed production through its FeedSafe® quality assurance program, supports continual improvement in energy conservation, antimicrobial stewardship, workplace wellbeing, and the establishment of a national feed standard for food-producing animals. The council offers resources like the national biosecurity manual for feed mills and the Australian code of good manufacturing practice for the feed milling industry, collaborates internationally, and organizes industry events and training. It represents a broad range of livestock sectors including poultry, pigs, dairy, beef, sheep, horses, aquaculture, and companion animals, supporting the production of meat, milk, eggs, wool, and other products.
