Led by Yayasan Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Foundation), RB Biotech Sdn Bhd was set up in October 2005 to breed local hybrid high yielding rice varieties that are adaptable to the Malaysian environment. The company was given biotechnology grant from Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Malaysia and Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry (MOA), Malaysia for its initial research and development work. RB Biotech Sdn Bhd adopted the hybrid rice technology pioneered by Professor Yuan Long Ping, Principal of China National Hybrid Rice Research & Development Project Center (CNHRRDPC), ChangSha City, Hunan, China. Their Chief Scientist is Professor Zhang Zao Dong, Deputy Director of CNHRRDPC. RB Biotech Hybrid Rice & Development Center is located in Tambun Tulang, Arau, Perlis, Malaysia. All their research scientist have many years of experience in their respective field and are specially selected from the People’s Republic of China and The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippines. RB Biotech Sdn Bhd works in close collaboration with the Malaysian Agricultural Research & Development Institute (MARDI) to develop and cultivate paddy varieties that produces higher paddy yield, consistent rice quality and are resistant to local common diseases. The company supplies hybrid paddy seeds to the paddy farmers through the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture & Agro-Based Industry, Malaysia.

The company was founded by Yeo Keng Lian in 1900 and is headquartered in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
