James R. Johnsen

James R.
Johnsen is currently the Chairman of The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education.
He also holds the position of Vice Chairman at the University of Alaska Foundation since 2015.
Additionally, he is the Managing Director of Johnsen Fretty & Co. LLC.
He serves as a Director at The Alaska State Chamber of Commerce, Alaska Aerospace Corp., and the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education.
In his former positions, Dr. Johnsen served as a Director at Geeks On Call Holdings, Inc. and Commonwealth North.
He was also the Senior Vice President-Human Resources at Alaska Communications Systems Group, Inc. from 2011 to 2012.
He held the position of Vice President at Southport Partners LP.
At the University of Alaska, he served as the Chief of Staff & Vice President-Administration in 2008.
He was the Senior Vice President-Administration at Doyon Ltd. from 2008 to 2011.
He also served as the President of the University of Alaska System.
Dr. Johnsen's education includes a doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania, a graduate degree from The University of Chicago, and an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
