Madeleine Smith

Madeleine is a Project Director at Closed Loop Partners’ Center for the Circular Economy, where she supports the NextGen Consortium, a multi-year partnership of foodservice industry leaders, with Founding Partners Starbucks and McDonald’s, to address single-use foodservice packaging waste globally by advancing the design, commercialization, and recovery of food packaging alternatives.
Prior to joining Closed Loop Partners, Madeleine spent three years in corporate sustainability management.
At VF Corporation, Madeleine’s experience covered several ESG related subject areas: supply chain strategy, enterprise risk management, sustainability strategy, circularity, zero waste, carbon accounting, renewable energy, green and healthy building design, and reporting.
Before this, Madeleine co-developed the long-term strategy and grants portfolio of The Foundation for a Smoke-Free World, addressing the needs of smallholder farmers and the evolution of tobacco science and technology.
Madeleine Smith holds a Master’s in Environmental Health Science and Engineering from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.
Madeleine has worked both domestically and internationally and is a published author on non-communicable disease and social justice, and the toxicological implications for marine microplastics on human health.
Madeleine enjoys exploring New York City in her running sneakers or on a bike in her spare time.
She loves learning about food, and when not trying a new restaurant or cuisine, she is perfecting recipes in her kitchen and feeding friends and family.
