John M. O'Rear

Mr. O’Rear joined Gravity Capital Management in 2005, bringing a wealth of knowledge of energy-related and income-producing businesses.
After graduation from college, he was then employed by Occidental Petroleum, where he gained valuable field and reservoir engineering experience prior to returning to graduate school.
Mr. O’Rear then worked in energy banking prior to joining XTO Energy in 1988, where he worked for the next 16 years.
XTO Energy is a leading oil and gas company which has compounded shareholder value at a rate of 35% annually since going public in 1993.
Mr. O’Rear became Vice President and Treasurer of XTO shortly after the company’s IPO and was instrumental in XTO’s growth, raising billions of capital in both debt and equity offerings.
In 1988, while working at XTO, Mr. O’Rear began managing individual investment portfolios.
The focus was on customizing portfolios to conform to individual needs and objectives.
These customized portfolios were primarily concentrated in energy companies, royalty trusts, real estate investment trusts, master limited partnerships and fixed income investments.
Mr. O’Rear graduated from the University of Texas with a B.S.
in Petroleum Engineering in 1980.
He obtained an MBA from Southern Methodist University in 1985, graduating in the top 5 percent of his class.
