LCI is an active manager which invests mainly in unlisted early-stage, growth and seed companies in the UK, Europe and North America which provide low carbon products/services in the following sectors: buildings (sustainable building materials, heating, lighting, clean air/water technologies); fuel (biofuels, low carbon fuels, catalysts and additives); energy efficiency (reductions in energy inputs at source, improved conversion and reductions at point of use) and energy generation (sustainable, clean energy, micro and distributed generation). The firm seeks to identify opportunities where the Low Carbon Accelerator Fund can exceed an IRR of 30% in three to five years, investing in trading companies with patentable technologies and products with a clear commercial application, the opportunity to gain a large market share of a new or expanding market, experienced management teams, commercially viable products providing easily adoptable solutions which deliver immediate reductions in carbon dioxide emissions and an exit strategy. Through the fund, LCI takes significant minority stakes in investee businesses and seeks board representation, aiming to support investee company growth by leveraging the experience and networks of their management and advisory teams.
