Ophthalmology Foundation
Ophthalmology Foundation Miscellaneous Commercial ServicesCommercial Services The Ophthalmology Foundation is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing ophthalmic education and improving eye care worldwide, with a focus on underserved and low-resource regions. The private company is based in San Francisco, CA. The organization empowers vision care through accessible, high-quality education, faculty development, and professional growth for ophthalmologists and eye care professionals. Key initiatives include internationally recognized, low-cost online examinations aligned with American Academy of Ophthalmology standards, offered biannually at local host centers worldwide to reduce travel barriers. The foundation plans to expand exam offerings with new subspecialty tests in retina and glaucoma launching in 2027. Top-performing candidates outside the U.S. may receive travel grants to attend international conferences or pursue specialized training. Faculty development is a core focus, with programs designed to enhance teaching skills through mentorships, symposia, workshops, webinars, simulation-based education, and online courses offering continuing professional development credits. The foundation’s educator’s certificate program certifies teaching competence, enabling educators to participate as faculty in educational interventions. Its faculty development committee oversees program quality and volunteer recruitment. Additional offerings include subspecialty fellowships awarding 80-100 grants annually across 20 areas, accreditation of residency programs to meet international standards, and collaborative partnerships with leading institutions and organizations worldwide. The foundation emphasizes equity, inclusion, and ethical standards, tailoring programs to regional needs through an international advisory committee. | Direttore/Membro del Consiglio | 29/06/2023 |
