The Greene County Historical Society operates the Vedder Research Library, serving as the primary archival and research center dedicated to preserving and providing access to Greene County’s documentary heritage dating back to the 1680s. The private company is based in Stanardsville. The library houses extensive collections including genealogical files, manuscript vertical files, photographs, maps, local newspapers, surrogate’s court records, church and religious society records, land grant documents, census data, county directories, tax rolls, and historical maps and atlases. It supports research into local history, genealogy, home histories, and legal records, offering resources such as the Bronck manuscript collection and inventories of manuscript files. The library operates primarily by appointment and is staffed by a part-time librarian and volunteers, with an online catalog and various finding aids available to assist researchers. The society also provides guides, indexes, and links to municipal historians and heritage organizations, and promotes community engagement through events, lectures, volunteer opportunities, and the Bronck Museum.
