They are governed by a 10-member Board of Trustees, five of whom are appointed by OPSEU and five by the Government of Ontario.

Optrust seeks investment opportunities globally. The firm targets companies operating in the fields of transportation, communications, power generation, resource extraction, utilities, water and waste water, and waste management. It provides financing for buyout and growth capital requirements in the form of debt and equity.
