Hearst was the founder of Cerus Corp.
which was founded in 1991, where he held the title of Vice President-New Science Opportunities from 1991 to 2003.
He was also a Director of Clinical Chemistry at Iris BioTechnologies, Inc. and a Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley from 1962 to 1995.
Prior to that, he was the Director of Chemical Dynamics Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from 1986 to 1988.
Dr. Hearst received his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his doctorate from California Institute of Technology in addition to a doctorate from Lehigh University in 1992.
